Owing to unforeseen circumstances, I’ve had to call a temporary halt to my art work so won’t be updating this site until mid 2018.
I will be taking up painting again later in the year and will have some new work to exhibit on this website.
As a watercolour artist living and working in Teignmouth on the beautiful Teign Estuary in South Devon, I specialise in painting seascapes and maritime subjects.
I’m conscious of the effects of light on water, reflections and how objects interact with the water both on and below the surface.
I also paint landscapes, wildlife and plants - in fact anything in watercolour that appeals to me. Recently I’ve tried painting more unusual subjects such as wine glasses reflecting on a shiny surface, and a wonderful dish of fish and chips served up at our local seafood restaurant. This presents new challenges and has allowed me to experiment with colours and tones not usually associated with more conventional landscapes and seascapes …..
The Artist and his ‘mews’!
I do have a selection of favourite brushes, paints and papers. You can read about these by clicking here >>
People often ask me what materials I use - paper, brushes, paints etc. and I sometimes hold afternoon workshops for Teignmouth Art Society on techniques such as laying down washes, colour mixing and so on.
There are so many ways to create effective paintings using watercolour and I find it fascinating looking at the work of other artists to try and work out how they created a particular effect.
